Droppin’ Some Education

L.A.S.E.R.

For those who don’t know it is an acronym. It stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Gordon Gould was the first person to use the term LASER in the late 1950’s. The acronym roots of the word LASER have been mainly forgotten outside the scientific world due to the terms wide spread use. So remember to capitalize or I will shoot you with my LASER.

Posh

The origins of the word posh may be false. It was believed that it was originally and acronym for Port Out Starboard Home. The letters POSH were supposedly stamped on tickets when boarding a ship. Etymologists have not found any indication that his may be true. But they have found a connection to this theory and a song in the movie “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”. The song is called Posh and the lyrics are “Port out, starboard home, posh with a capital P-O-S-H”. Dick Van Dyke lied to us!

Crystallophone

It’s an instrument that produces sound from glass. So when you are watching tv and see those people with their wine glasses making music you can sound smart and proclaim “Hey that guy is playing a crystallophone!”
