No, I didn’t Dress up

On August 25, as I have done for most of the last 8 years, I went to FanExpo. It is always fun to go and rub elbows with the geek royalty, hardcore nerds, and painted people that always leaves you wondering where that red/blue/green/yellow stain on your pants, shirt, or skin comes from.

I wondered around the exhibition floor seeing interesting characters and finding collectibles to add to my, already expansive, geekery. As with every year I added a bit too much. Lets start with some of the characters.

DeadMausPool

In the past few years DeadPool has developed into whole world of characters; Lady DeadPool, Kid DeadPool, even a Dog DeadPool. But I had never seen this one before but thought it was great. I call him DeadMausPool. Or should it be DeadPoolMaus? He can drop the beat as he drops you.

Car

This guy was decorating a car with sharpies. As you can see his style is skull and demon heavy, very metal. He was no where near done obviously, as there was a lot of white space left, but I completely forgot to pass back when I was leaving to see what had changed.

Poster wall

This is the poster wall for Terry Huddleston showcasing his work. As you can see its fantastic and after a short chat he seem like a pretty nice guy. I couldn’t resist buying one of his prints but it was a long arduous task. You’ll see which one I chose further down.

Scarecrow

I met the Scare Crow and he kinda freaked me out. This guy stayed character the whole time I talked to him. He really wanted to know my fears.

Hunger Games

I know she is supposed to be someone from Hunger Games, Effie maybe or maybe just someone from that world. She didn’t do anything or maybe she did and I just missed it but she just sat there and managed to smile when the camera was pointed at her.

Mask

This is in the Horror section of the show at a booth where they make masks. Yup, that is a mask. The detail and texture were amazing.

Transformers

Arcee and Hot Rod were just hanging out posing for picks.

Captain America and Red Skull

FanExpo is the only place where Captain America and Red Skull are friends.

Spiderman and Iron Canuck

Spiderman, who didn’t commit enough (I mean shoes are important to the whole look) and, what I am calling, Iron Canuck just hanging out. The gun on his shoulder was making noise and moving around. He also had his own walking music. It was pretty cool.

Psylocke

Well I was very happy to see someone out in a not so popular X-Men costume. She was also my favourite character in the video games so I was very excited.

Classic X-Men

Some cos-players went classic with their X-Men looks wearing Cosplay Wigs. Storm, Cyclops, Mystique, and Azazel (I think). Those who need Halloween Contacts for their next cosplay event may check out what Cosplay Contacts Store has to offer.

Fat KickAss

Leaving the convention I spotted this sad, very hungry Kick-Ass.

Haul

So that is my haul from the show. I got 5 POP! Figurines, 4 graphic novels, 4 comic books, 2 art prints, and some free swag. Its not as big as some but it is enough for me to panic a bit cuz a) even though I technically didn’t go over budget, I did spend a lot of money and b) where I am I gonna put this stuff? Everything is still sitting on that table and I just don’t know what I am gonna do.

POP Figs – Masters of the Universe

Except for Spikor, I got this collection of Pop Figurines. I didn’t get Spikor because who is he? I have no idea. I had (surprisingly) lengthy discussions about this and we couldn’t figure it out. After a quick googling though he was apparently a He-Man foe. I saw pics but I still don’t remember. Even though I don’t care much about the character I still wish I bought it so I can say I have the full collection. Oh well.

POP Fig – Disney Carl

This was just too cute for me not to buy. He looks almost exactly like how he did in the movie. I guess he proportions just fit with the POP! Figs style.

Cat Woman 2

I never posted the book reviews I started writing months ago. One of the books was the New 52 Cat Woman Volume 1. It was good. It was interesting, violent, and sexy. Loved it. So far this is the only New 52 character I like.

Chew 7

SQUEE! I only recently read book 6 that left you with this ridiculously sad ending. I didn’t even know a book 7 existed. I went to a lot of booths that had the Chew graphics but none of them had a 7 or even mentioned a 7 when I asked. It was like the last table I went to when the place was shutting down, something caught my friend’s eye and we stopped. I was idly looking at stuff and BOOM! there it was. This lady made my day. She gave us a discount for buying more than 1 book plus a couple of free comics. Sweet!

C.O.P.S. 1

Its crime fighting time! I used to love this show but sadly, like many 80s cartoons, it hasn’t aged well. But I have a soft spot for it so when I came across this I had to pick it up.

Saga 1

I bought this on recommendation from a friend. He insists that it is good and other people have voiced the same opinion. I hope it is as good as they say.

The Boys 1

This was also a recommendation. I hope it is good too.

X-Men Omega

Fancy foil cover comic from the Onslaught era. Couldn’t say no.

X-Men Prime

Same with this one. The thing is I think I have this in the regular cover. It is still cool to have.

She-Ra Poster

This is the print I bought from Terry Huddleston. It is pretty great. If I could have afforded to I would have gotten the He-Man one too. They are just so great. I hope he is at the show next year cuz I will pick up more for sure.

Other poster

This is a beautiful print I picked up from John Little. He is a friend of mine, an artist, with a booth at the show. I really like his work.

Free Swag

This is just some free stuff I got at the show. The tee is from the Play Station booth where you could play some of their games, I sadly got there too late and wasn’t allowed to play but they still gave me a shirt. Got handed a Final Fantasy giant scarf/flag/piece-of-material. And a Muramasa: Rebirth soundtrack CD…yeah. Probably not going to listen to that.

Well that is it. I am sad to report I missed KITT and the Batmobile. I didn’t even know they were there! And also they were in the Sports area that was completely separate from the rest of the show. I know they are cars but why in sports? C’mon! I just breezed through there to get to the good stuff. If you’re looking to enhance sports facilities, consider tennis court painting for a visually appealing and well-maintained playing environment.

That’s it.
